Why Send a Message to Your Future Self?Writing a message to your future self is a simple way to capture who you are today, your thoughts, dreams, worries, relationships and hopes, and preserve them for the person you'll become.Life changes gradually, which makes it surprisingly easy to forget how you once thought and felt. A message written today and delivered years from now can give you a unique glimpse into your past.A conversation across timeThink about where you were five years ago. What were you worried about? What were you working towards? Who was important to you? What did you think your life would look like today? Now imagine receiving an email written by that version of yourself.A future message creates that experience deliberately. You might write about:Where you are in life right now
What you're proud of
What you're struggling with
The people who matter most to you
Your goals for the next few years
Something you're afraid of
A promise you're making to yourself
Where you hope you'll be when the message arrivesYour message doesn't need to be profound. Sometimes the ordinary details become the most interesting ones years later. When should you send it?There are no rules. You could send a message six months into the future, on your next birthday, five years from now or even decades ahead.Try asking yourself:Where do I think I'll be when I read this? Then write honestly to that person.Send your message into the futureWith iSent Future Messages, you can write your message today, choose a future delivery date and have it delivered to your chosen email inbox when that day arrives.Write today. Receive it when the future becomes now.

Future Letter Ideas: What Should You Write to Your Future Self? You've decided to write a letter to your future self. Then you see the empty box. What do I actually write? There's no perfect future letter. The most meaningful messages are usually honest snapshots of your life as it exists today.Start with your life right nowTell your future self what an ordinary day looks like.Where are you living? What do you do for work?Who do you spend your time with? What music are you listening to?What's making you happy? What's frustrating you?Details that seem completely ordinary today may become some of the most interesting parts of your letter years from now.Write about your goalsTell your future self what you're trying to accomplish.Maybe you want to:Change careers
Start a business
Travel somewhere you've always dreamed of visiting
Buy your first home
Become healthier
Learn a new skill
Start a family
Finish university
Become financially independentThen ask:Did we do it?Write about the people in your lifeWho matters to you today?Write their names.Describe your relationship with them.Tell your future self what you appreciate about those people.Years later, this part of your message may mean more than you expect.Ask your future self questionsTry questions such as:Are you happy?Where are you living?Did you achieve the thing we're working towards?Who is still beside you? What happened that I could never have predicted? What would you tell me if you could send a message back?Don't try to sound profoundWrite like you're talking to yourself.Because you are. When you're ready, iSent can keep your future message and deliver it to your inbox on the date you choose.

Letters for Your Children: A Message They Can Receive in the FutureSome messages aren't meant to be read today.Imagine writing a letter while your child is young and having it delivered years later — on their 18th birthday, when they graduate, when they become a parent themselves or on another milestone you choose.A future letter gives you the opportunity to preserve a moment in your relationship that they may be too young to remember themselves.Capture who they are todayTell them about the little things. What makes them laugh? What words do they pronounce incorrectly? What's their favourite toy? What do they ask you every morning? What are they obsessed with? What happened recently that made you incredibly proud? These ordinary memories can become extraordinary with time.Tell them about yourself tooYour child knows you as their parent. But someday they may want to know the person you were.Tell them what life was like when you wrote the letter. What were you worried about? What were you hoping for? What was it like becoming their parent? What dreams did you have for them?Messages for important milestonesYou could schedule a future message for:Their 16th or 18th birthday
Their 21st birthday
Graduation
Their first day at university
A future wedding
Becoming a parent
A significant family anniversaryYou don't have to predict exactly who they'll become.Simply tell them who they are to you right now. With iSent, you can write the message today and choose the future date you want it delivered.

Anniversary Time Capsule IdeasAn anniversary celebrates everything that happened between two dates.A future anniversary message lets you capture your relationship today and send that moment forward to yourselves in the future.Create a snapshot of your relationshipWrite down things you might otherwise forget:Where did you first meet?
What do you currently love doing together?
What's your favourite memory from this year?
What makes you laugh?
What annoying habit secretly makes you smile?
Where are you living?
What are you dreaming about doing together?Make predictionsThis is where an anniversary time capsule becomes fun.Predict:
Where will we live?
Will we have children?
Where will we have travelled?
What will our careers look like?
What ridiculous argument will we still be having?
What will have changed completely? Then schedule the message for your 5th, 10th, 20th or another future anniversary.Write separatelyAnother idea is for both partners to write their own future message without showing the other person.Choose the same delivery date.Years later, you'll both receive a snapshot of what the other person was thinking at exactly this point in your relationship. With iSent, your anniversary message can wait quietly in the future until the date you choose arrives.

Birthday Messages for the FutureMost birthday messages disappear within days.A future birthday message is different.Instead of writing only for someone's birthday today, write something they won't receive until a birthday years from now.Send a birthday message across timeImagine sending:“Happy 30th birthday. I wrote this when you were 25.”Or:“Happy 18th. Your mum wrote this when you were five.”Or simply:“Happy 40th, future me. I have a few questions…”The distance between writing and receiving the message is what makes it special. What should you write?Tell them what life is like today.Share a favourite memory.Tell them what you admire about them.Make predictions about their future.Include an inside joke they might have completely forgotten.Ask questions you want their future self to answer.Or simply tell them something you don't say often enough.Write to yourself on a future birthdayFuture birthday messages don't have to be for somebody else.Write to the person you'll be at 30, 40, 50, 60 or beyond.Ask yourself:What do I hope I've learned by then? What do I hope I haven't forgotten? Then choose that birthday as your iSent delivery date.

Grief, Remembrance and Messages for the FutureWords can preserve memories in a way photographs sometimes cannot.Writing about someone important to you can capture the stories, feelings and small details that might otherwise fade over time.Preserve the memories that matterYou might write about:A favourite memory together
Something they always said
A place that reminds you of them
A lesson they taught you
Something that always made them laugh
A tradition you want to continue
The things you never want to forgetThe message doesn't need to explain grief or make sense of loss.It can simply preserve a memory.Send a remembrance message to your future selfYou may choose to receive your message on an anniversary, birthday or another meaningful future date.Reading your own words years later can reconnect you with the memories and feelings you wanted to preserve.iSent provides a way to write those words today and choose when your future self will receive them. Some memories deserve to travel with us.

Goal-Setting Through Future LettersMost goals are written as lists:Lose weight. Save money. Change jobs. Start the business. Travel more.A future letter approaches goal-setting differently.Instead of simply writing what you want to achieve, you write to the person who will eventually discover whether you did it.Write from where you are todayStart by describing your current situation honestly. What do you want to change? Why does it matter? What's stopping you? What would your life look like if you actually followed through? Then tell your future self what you're committing to.Ask your future selfDid you do it?That's a surprisingly powerful question. You could write:“I'm writing this on 13 August 2026. I've been talking about starting my business for two years. By the time you receive this, I hope we finally did it.”Then choose a meaningful date — perhaps one year, three years or five years away.Record more than successYour future letter isn't a contract.Life changes. You might receive the message and discover that the goal you desperately wanted no longer matters. That's interesting too.The point isn't to judge your future self. It's to create a connection between the person making the decision today and the person who will live with where that decision leads.Write your goal, choose your future date and let iSent bring the message back to you when the time comes.

The Psychology of Your Future SelfYour future self can feel strangely like another person. You know intellectually that the person you'll be in five, ten or twenty years is still you — but it's difficult to emotionally connect with someone who doesn't exist yet. That's one reason writing to your future self can be so interesting.Making the future feel personalWe constantly make decisions for our future selves. We save money for them.We exercise for them.We study for them.We make career decisions for them.We also leave problems for them.Writing a future letter forces you to imagine that person more clearly. What will they want? What will they remember? What will they wish you had started today?Your predictions will probably be wrongAnd that's part of the experience. You might confidently predict where you'll live, what career you'll have or who will be in your life.Five years later, everything could be different.Receiving your message lets you compare the future you imagined with the future that actually happened.Sometimes you'll be surprised by what changed.Sometimes you'll be surprised by what didn't.A snapshot of your identityA future message isn't only about predicting what comes next. It's a record of who you are now.Your ambitions.Your fears.Your relationships.Your priorities.Your view of the world. Those things evolve slowly enough that we don't always notice them changing.A letter can preserve them.Write to the person you're becomingAsk your future self questions.Tell them what you're trying to accomplish.Tell them what you're scared of.Tell them what you never want them to forget. Then choose when you'd like to meet those words again.iSent Future Messages lets you write today and have your message delivered to you on a future date of your choice.Your future self is already on the way.Give them something to open when they get there.

About iSentA simple idea: some messages are meant for later.iSent is a small, independent project built around one idea: giving people a way to send meaningful messages into the future.
It wasn't created by a large company or a big development team. iSent is a solo project that started from a simple thought — what if you could write something today that you, your child, your partner, a friend or someone you love wouldn't receive until a meaningful moment in the future?
A message from a younger version of yourself.
A letter written to your child years before they are old enough to understand it.
A birthday message waiting for a future milestone.
Words of encouragement from a difficult chapter of your life.
A memory, a goal, a prediction, an inside joke or simply a reminder of who you were at this exact moment.
That's what iSent is here to preserve. Why iSent existsLife moves quickly, and we don't always realise how much we're changing while it's happening.
The things that feel ordinary today can become incredibly meaningful years from now.
Our ambitions change. Relationships grow. Families change. Difficult periods eventually become memories. We achieve things we once thought were impossible, and sometimes we take completely different paths from the ones we imagined.
A future message captures a small piece of the present before that happens. With iSent Future Messages, you can write a message to your future self or someone you care about, choose a future delivery date, and have that message delivered by email when the chosen day arrives.
It could be months from now or years into the future.
The message waits.
Life happens.
And one day, it comes back. The mission behind iSent is simple:
To help people preserve meaningful words today and deliver them when they may mean even more.
iSent isn't about predicting the future.
It's about connecting two moments in time. The person writing the message today and the person reading it someday in the future may technically be the same person — but life may have changed enormously between those two moments. We want iSent to make creating that connection simple and accessible to anyone.
No complicated memberships.
No expensive subscriptions.
Just write your future message, choose when it should arrive and let time do the rest. Why does iSent cost only £1?iSent currently charges just £1 per future message.
The goal isn't to make sending a meaningful message expensive. The small £1 charge helps contribute towards the services required to keep iSent running — including the website, message processing, automation, storage, email delivery and the other tools behind the service.
There is no monthly subscription required to send a message.
You simply pay for the future message you choose to send.
As a small independent project, keeping iSent running sustainably matters. Charging £1 helps support the service while keeping the cost low enough that sending something meaningful into the future remains accessible. What can you send with iSent?
Today, iSent focuses on written future messages delivered by email. You might use iSent to:
- Write a letter to your future self
- Send a future birthday message
- Create a personal digital time capsule
- Write a message for your child to receive when they're older
- Capture your current goals and revisit them years later
- Send words of encouragement to your future self
- Preserve memories from an important period of your life
- Write something meaningful for someone you love
- Record what life feels like today before everything changesAnd this is only the beginning.
iSent is being developed with the aim of supporting more ways to preserve memories and communicate across time, including audio messages, photographs and future text messages.
These additional services are planned for the future and are not currently part of the standard future-message service.A project built one step at a time
Because iSent is an independent solo project, it will continue to evolve gradually.
There may be bigger and more sophisticated platforms on the internet. iSent isn't trying to pretend otherwise. The focus here is much simpler:
Make something useful. Keep it affordable. Make it easy to use. And build a service people can trust with words that matter to them.
Every person who sends a message through iSent becomes a small part of that journey.Your future is already on its way
Maybe your message will arrive in six months.
Maybe five years.
Maybe much longer.
By the time it does, you may have forgotten exactly what you wrote.
And that's part of what makes a future message special. For a moment, the person you are today gets to speak directly to the person you — or someone you love — will become.Write it today. Let iSent deliver it to the future.
